Hello, I’m Todd Tracy with the Tracy Law Firm in Dallas, Texas with another Todd Talk. I want to talk to you today about the importance of your seat. Most people think, “My seat really is only for comfort,” but believe it or not, the seat is one of the main safety systems in your vehicle.

I want you think about this: you’re driving down the road, another vehicle hits you from behind—how is your seat going to perform? If your seat collapses rearward, who is driving your vehicle? What about people who are crossing the road and they’re no longer at the control of your own vehicle because your seat has collapsed?

At the Tracy firm, what we do here at the Crash Lab is we actually take the seats that come into our office and we analyze every aspect of the seat component. In this particular seat, you’ll notice there’s a metal bracket here on this particular seat that has failed catastrophically at a component called the B bracket. Vehicle seats are not designed such that the components will fail catastrophically in an instantaneously manner. Seat components are designed so that as the vehicle begins to absorb energy, and absorb all of that crush that the seats deflect rearward or yield rearward in a controlled manner.
This seat cannot perform as designed because metallurgically, the metal failed. So what do we do to evaluate that? Well, we actually take seats, we go and we buy a vehicle seat that has not been involved in an accident. We have torn this seat down and actually performed a seat autopsy on this exemplar seat. And you’ll notice we have an undamaged B bracket here. We will then go and test this B bracket metallurgically to find out why the seat in our accident vehicle failed.
If you’re going to handle cases against vehicle manufacturers, and if you’re going to handle cases against seat component part manufacturers, you better be willing to out-test them. And at the Tracy firm, we routinely out-test the vehicle manufacturers. If you or a loved one have been seriously injured or killed because your seat collapsed rearward in a rear impact accident, I hope you’ll call our firm. Thank you.

If you, a family member, or friend have suffered a traumatic car accident injury or they were killed in an auto accident, there may be grounds for a product liability lawsuit against the car maker. The victim’s or family members of the deceased person may be entitled to significantly more money in damages than just a negligence case about the cause of the accident.
The Tracy Law Firm focuses on “Who Caused The Traumatic Car Accident Injuries or Death” — not who caused the accident.
Whether you were at fault or not in the cause of the accident, car companies are required by federal motor vehicle safety standards to make vehicles that will protect the driver and passengers from catastrophic injuries or death.
