Backseat Warning: Equal Protection False Narrative

You just thought children were safe in the backseat of the family car. Auto Safety Expert and Crashworthiness Attorney Todd Tracy shows how parents should check to see if the back window glass will keep a child from being ejected in a rollover accident car crash.

Hello, this is Todd Tracy with the Tracy law firm in Dallas, Texas, with another Todd Talk. You know, it’s funny. Children are our most precious cargo and when we have children 12 years old or younger, we’re always told, “Make certain if you stick them in the back seat that your vehicle has a passenger side front airbag.” However, we’ve learned over the past 25 years that the rear seat does not offer equal protection to rear seated occupants that the front seat does.

Backseat Warning: Back Window Concerns After a Rollover

For example, I want you to look at this particular vehicle here that was involved in a rollover. The front windows have laminated glass. The rear windows, where our most precious cargo, our children, like this little 6-year-old child test dummy would be sitting, they have tempered glass. Well, what happens in a rollover if the side curtain does not fire? I want you to imagine if your 6-year-old child, or your 8-year-old child, or your 10-year-old child is sitting next to this window. The vehicle is involved in a rollover. What’s going to happen to their arm? What’s going to happen to their upper torso? Even with their seatbelt on, you can get half of your upper torso out of the window.

Backseat Warning: Ejection Mitigation

That’s why it’s critically important when you buy a vehicle, you need to make certain your vehicle has what is known as ejection mitigation glass all the way around it: in the sunroof, in the windshield, in the front drivers and passenger’s windows, and in the rear passengers and driver side windows. Because after all, our most precious cargo is of equal protection, like the front seated occupants. This is Todd Tracy with another Todd Talk. Thank you.

Backseat Injury Lawyer – Todd Tracy

If you, a family member, or friend have suffered a traumatic car accident injury or they were killed in an auto accident, there may be grounds for a product liability lawsuit against the car maker. The victim’s or family members of the deceased person may be entitled to significantly more money in damages than just a negligence case about the cause of the accident.

The Tracy Law Firm focuses on “Who Caused The Traumatic Car Accident Injuries or Death” — not who caused the accident.

Whether you were at fault or not in the cause of the accident, car companies are required by federal motor vehicle safety standards to make vehicles that will protect the driver and passengers from catastrophic injuries or death.
